I am trying to get into the habit of sketching every day. I encourage my students to do it. I manage most days, but I need to be more dedicated. Just a sketch of something little, while having a coffee or at the moment in the car whilst out and about. (Sometimes with my granddaughter for company) It is getting really cold now so in the car is best, especially when that warm winter sun is out.
Todays sketch is of a vase of flowers, nearly ready to be thrown out, but I just can’t do it.
Don’t spend too much time sketching. Make a few measurements with your pencil to get an idea of the size comparison between the flowers and the vase. Squint your eyes to see where the dark and light areas are. Check where the light source is for later shadows.
A quick sketch and then onto some watercolour washes.
These little watercolour brushes work a treat for a quick painting. Especially on location as the water is in them ready to go.
My morning coffee view.
Note my little scratch pad. Those of you who know me well can hear me saying, check your colour before going in to paint. A little note, on the side for myself to remember the shadows finish the picture, they are a painting in themselves. You will find many colours and values in the shadows. if you look really hard. (I could have put a little dash of pink in these shadows, just for fun)
My little vase study complete. Have a great day.
I am taking an art tour to Bali in September this year. I would love you to join me if you can. Check it out here if you are interested. http://www.lisaaddinsall.com/painting-in-paradise-art-retreat-in-ubud-with-lisa-addinsall/
