It has been an exciting few weeks at The Hamilton and Alexandra College, where I am an artist in residence.
Each week students will join me in the Da Vinci studio to paint. By the end of this term they will have completed 12 very large canvases. We will work in an intuitive style. This allows all students to join in and and enjoy the process, no matter what age or ability. This technique builds confidence and it helps to develop art skills in a very relaxed environment.
To begin the process, I held some charcoal drawing workshops. The idea was to create free flowing drawings, to relax and learn to use minimal lines to complete a drawing of a bird. I am thrilled with the drawings that the students completed.
I will use these drawings as inspiration to draw 12 birds on the large canvases, which will be ready for some paint when the students visit next.
I am also completing some paintings so that the students can learn from the techniques I use.
